Looking to kick-start your career in the hospitality industry? Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is inviting unemployed young people living within the City of Johannesburg to apply for its CATHSSETA-funded Certificate in Professional Cookery Level 4 Learnership Programme.

This 12-month learnership combines classroom learning with practical workplace experience, giving aspiring chefs the opportunity to develop industry-recognised culinary skills while earning a monthly stipend.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Be unemployed.
  • Reside within the City of Johannesburg.
  • Have completed Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Have English as a Grade 12 subject.
  • Be passionate about cooking and hospitality.
  • Be willing to attend both theoretical and practical training.
  • Not be registered for another learnership, internship or funded skills programme.
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be reliable, committed and eager to learn.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit certified copies of:

  • South African ID
  • Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate (or equivalent qualification)
  • Updated CV
  • Proof of residence confirming residence within the City of Johannesburg (Ward Councillor letter)
  • Cover letter

Note: Certified documents must not be older than three months.

Important Information

Successful applicants:

  • Will sign a Learnership Agreement with Joburg City Theatres, CATHSSETA and the training provider.
  • Must have their own transport.
  • Must have no criminal record.
  • Should note that completing the learnership does not guarantee permanent employment.
