What Is the Fit4Rail Program?

The Fit4Rail Vacation Program is a foundational university programme originally developed under major rail infrastructure projects. It follows an intern-centred, modular learning approach and targets undergraduate students from engineering and business-related disciplines.

The programme runs for 9 weeks (45 working days) and is structured around four core pillars:

Structured Onboarding & Orientation

Technical Training Across Railway Subsystems

Guided Workplace Exposure & Site Visits

Evaluation & Formal Certification

The programme aims to raise awareness of railways as advanced mobility solutions, build foundational subsystem knowledge, strengthen Siemens’ employer brand, and identify high-potential early talent.

Role Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Participate in a structured onboarding and orientation programme to understand Siemens Mobility’s operations, safety standards, and programme expectations.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to key railway subsystems including rolling stock, depots, electrification, EHS, AFC, signalling, and service & maintenance (depending on discipline and availability).
  • Support host teams with supervised technical or business-related tasks aligned to your field of study.
  • Attend technical classroom sessions and site visits to deepen your understanding of real-world railway operations.
  • Work under the guidance of assigned managers and mentors who provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation.
  • Participate in assessments, learning reviews, and programme completion activities leading to formal certification.
  • Adhere to Siemens’ safety, quality, and compliance standards at all times.

Requirements

Who Should Apply

This programme is open to currently enrolled undergraduate students or recent graduates. The following academic disciplines are welcomed:

Electrical Engineering | Mechanical Engineering | Electronics Engineering | Mechatronics | Information Technology (IT) | Business-Related Disciplines

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or recent graduate student.
  • Strong academic performance and genuine interest in the rail or mobility sector.
  • No prior work experience required — prior internships are considered an advantage.
  • Project experience in a relevant field is advantageous but not compulsory.
