About the Opportunity
Gold Fields South Deep Gold Mine is inviting applications for the Learner Miner 18-2 Learnership Programme.
The programme is designed for individuals interested in building a career in the mining industry. Learners will receive practical, work-based training designed to develop their skills and improve their employability within the mining sector.
According to Gold Fields, the opportunity is specifically aimed at applicants from its South Deep Host Communities.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet the relevant host-community requirement. You must either:
- Be a resident of one of the South Deep Host Communities; or
- Have successfully completed Grade 12/Matric at a school situated within one of the listed Host Communities.
The listed communities are:
- Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein and Jachtfontein
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4), or
- An N3 qualification with two languages passed
- At least 2 years’ experience in a mining operation
- Medical fitness for the position and mining environment
- Ability to pass a Heat Tolerance Screening Test
- Any additional assessments required by Gold Fields
What Will Learners Do?
Successful candidates will participate in practical mining and technical training, including:
- Applying safe work practices
- Participating in risk assessments
- Assisting artisans with daily maintenance work
- Handling, cleaning and safely storing tools
- Maintaining good housekeeping
- Identifying and reporting safety and environmental risks
- Participating in technical training prescribed by MQA/DMRE
- Taking part in technical evaluations and development discussions
- Performing standby duties when required
