About the SANRAL Bursary Programme
The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) is inviting eligible South African students to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.
The programme provides financial support to students pursuing selected undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications aligned with SANRAL’s operational and professional requirements.
SANRAL states that applicants with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Fields of Study
Undergraduate
Applicants entering their first year of undergraduate study in 2027 may apply for approved programmes including:
- BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering
- Public Procurement
- Supply Chain Management
- Computer Science
- Information Systems
Undergraduate applicants must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% in their latest academic results.
Postgraduate
Postgraduate applicants must be enrolling for an NQF Level 8 qualification in 2027 and have achieved a minimum average of 60% in their most recent academic results.
Approved fields include:
- Property Development and Management
- Real Estate / Commercial Properties
- Commercial Property and Investment
- Property Asset Management
- Property Valuation
- Town and Regional Planning
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Finance / Financial Management
- Property Law
- Commercial Law
- Contract Law
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be under 35 years old
- Meet the academic requirements for their chosen field
- Achieve the required academic average:
- 70% for undergraduate applicants
- 60% for postgraduate applicants
- Study at an approved South African tertiary institution
- Be registered for full-time study
- Not study through part-time or distance-learning programmes
- Submit a complete application with all required supporting documents
Private universities will not be considered.
What Does the SANRAL Bursary Cover?
Depending on whether the applicant receives a full or partial bursary, funding may cover:
Full Bursary
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Study materials and equipment
- Food
- Living allowance
- Access to the SANRAL Wellness Plan
Partial Bursary
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Access to the Wellness Plan
Documents Required
Applicants should prepare the following supporting documents:
- One-page motivation letter
- Certified copy of ID or birth certificate
- Certified IDs of parents/legal guardian
- Latest academic results
- Proof of tertiary application
- Proof of residence
- Proof of household income
- Additional supporting documents where applicable
SANRAL states that proof of income should not be older than three months, while certified copies should have been certified within three months of submission.
Important Information
⚠️ SANRAL does NOT charge an application fee.
Applicants should ensure that all information submitted is accurate and complete. The qualification indicated on the bursary application must match the course for which the applicant is accepted at their chosen tertiary institution.
SANRAL also considers academic merit and financial need when selecting bursary recipients. Receiving the bursary does not guarantee employment with SANRAL.

Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the closing date may not be considered.
SANRAL states that only successful applicants will be contacted. Applicants who have not received communication by 31 January 2027 should consider their application unsuccessful.
