This is an excellent opportunity for unemployed South Africans who have completed a Fire Fighter 1 (FF1) course and want to gain practical firefighting experience while earning a salary.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Proof of completion of a Fire Fighter 1 (FF1) course
- Be medically, physically and mentally fit
- No criminal record (proof required from shortlisted candidates)
- Be a resident of the Stellenbosch Municipal Area and remain a resident throughout the programme
- Proof of address and affidavit confirming residency
Other Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Good communication skills in at least two of the Western Cape’s official languages (English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa)
- Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Excellent overall health
- No phobias related to confined spaces, heights, water, darkness, blood, isolation, depths or handling deceased persons
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful learners will assist with:
- Responding to fire emergencies
- Fire suppression and rescue operations
- Emergency rescue services
- Providing basic medical care
- Fire prevention and public education
- Operating and maintaining firefighting vehicles and equipment
- Maintaining fire station facilities
- Performing duties under supervision in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act (Act 99 of 1987)
Added Advantage
- Valid Code B driver’s licence
Physical Fitness
Applicants will undergo physical fitness assessments. Candidates must be physically capable of performing demanding firefighting duties and have no cardiac or respiratory conditions that may affect operational performance.
