For learnerships, internships, and entry-level jobs, your CV may be reviewed in under 30 seconds. That means it needs to be clean, easy to read, and relevant — not long, not fancy, and not full of spelling errors.
Keep it to one page
If you have less than two years of work experience, your CV should be one page only. Recruiters do not want to read a five-page CV from someone who just finished school. Shorter is more professional at this stage.

Here is the recommended structure for a South African CV when you have no work experience. Follow this order exactly.
Personal Details
Your full name, phone number, email address, and city/town. Do not include your full home address — a suburb is enough. Make sure your email is professional: firstname.lastname@gmail.com, not “hotgirl2006@gmail.com”.
Personal Profile (2–3 sentences)
A short paragraph at the top saying who you are, what you’ve studied, and what you’re looking for. Keep it honest and specific — not “I am a hardworking individual who is a fast learner.”
Education
List your highest qualification first. Include the institution name, qualification, year completed, and your subjects. For matrics, include results if they’re good. For TVET students, include your NQF level.
Skills
List practical skills relevant to the role. Computer skills, languages you speak, a driver’s licence, or customer service experience from helping at a family business all count. Be honest — you may be tested.
Extracurricular Activities / Volunteer Work

List two people who can vouch for your character and reliability — a teacher, community leader, pastor, or neighbour. Include their name, relationship to you, and a working phone number. Always ask permission first.
What to Put Instead of Work Experience
If you’ve never had a paying job, here is what you can include under your activities and experience sections:
School Leadership
Head girl/boy, class representative, prefect, sports captain, or debating team. All show responsibility.
Church or Community Roles
Sunday school helper, community garden volunteer, youth group leader — these show commitment and character.
Helping in a Family Business
Assisting with a spaza shop, catering, or deliveries counts. Describe what you actually did.
Online Courses

School Projects
