What the Safety Intern Will Do

The intern will play an important role in supporting the company’s safety management systems and reporting processes.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

Compiling Safety Reports

The intern will assist with compiling safety statistics and preparing reports such as:

Weekly safety statistics for operations meetings

Monthly safety reports

Quarterly SACGA reports

Annual safety reports

Uploading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports when incidents occur

These reports help management monitor workplace safety and improve compliance.

Assisting with Safety Training and Audits

Another major part of the role involves helping with safety awareness and internal audits.

Responsibilities include:

Supporting safety training sessions

Conducting internal management system audits

Monitoring incident reporting

Following up on accidents, near misses and safety incidents

Ensuring corrective actions are implemented

This experience is highly valuable for anyone planning to become a Safety Officer or HSE professional.

Managing SHEQ Systems

The intern will also help manage the company’s Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) system.

Duties include:

Managing safety and quality modules in the system

Tracking corrective actions from audits

Maintaining departmental safety records

General Administration Support

The Safety Intern will also assist the department with administrative tasks, including:

Filing safety documentation

Organising travel arrangements

Managing management review meeting minutes

Coordinating worldwide safety campaigns

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Safety Intern position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Education

Matric certificate

Safety Diploma or Degree

Experience

0 to 2 years of safety-related experience

Advantageous Knowledge

Knowledge of international safety standards such as:

ISO 14001

OHSAS 18001 will be considered beneficial.
