Learnership Overview

This learnership forms part of Rand Water’s commitment to skills development, youth empowerment, and employment creation in the water and wastewater sector. Successful learners will receive both theoretical training and practical workplace experience.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:

Must be unemployed

Must not be registered with any institution or learnership programme

Must not hold any completed post-matric qualification

Must have Matric (Grade 12) with:

Mathematics (Level 3 or above)

Physical Science (Level 3 or above)

Must submit a SAQA / NLRD Verification Report

Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID

Must be between 18 and 35 years old

Failure to disclose post-matric qualifications will result in disqualification.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in operation and maintenance of water and wastewater reticulation systems

Support installation, repair, and maintenance of pipelines and sewer networks

Detect and report leaks, blockages, and pipe bursts

Assist with meter reading and basic maintenance

Monitor water pressure and flow

Support excavation, pipe laying, and site reinstatement

Inspect valves, hydrants, and manholes

Comply with Occupational Health & Safety standards

Attend learnership classes and practical sessions

Complete assignments, assessments, and maintain a logbook

Knowledge

Understanding of Rand Water’s mandate and contribution to the water sector

Skills

Good verbal and written communication skills

Attitude

Self-motivated

Results-driven

Willingness to learn and work in a technical environment
